I’ve been busy and tired this week, and as a result have been zoning out on my couch scrolling through social media. Which can be a mixed bag. How are there this many videos about Costco finds? Why am I being served so many promoted posts about Excel spreadsheet tips? But sometimes, punctuating the news updates and the cheese ads1, you find some treasures. Like Rigatoni and Macaroni, the puppies being fostered by the late Noodle2 the Pug’s owner. Adorable and delightful. Highly recommend following for cute updates.
During one of my scrolls I sumbled upon a clip of a choir and orchestra and was mesmerized. It was in a language I didn’t recognize and the male vocalist was wonderful. I went down a rabbit hole looking for where the clip came from and discovered it’s called Waloyo Yamoni (We Overcome the Wind), a choral work by composer Christopher Tin. The YouTube description says it is sung in Lango, with lyrics from a rainmaking litany3. It’s beautiful and dynamic and you won’t regret spending the 13 minutes watching the entire live performance. Hit play below and enjoy.
You can listen to the entire album The Drop That Contained the Sea on Spotify.
I also really enjoyed the video for Hope Is the Thing with Feathers, a soaring (pun intended) piece inspired by Emily Dickinson’s poem4 of the same name. This animation is lovely.
What wonderful things have you stumbled upon during your zoning out scrolls lately? Share your treasures with me in the comments!
Why am I getting so many ads for cheese?? This is unnecessary.
Rest on comfy mountain in peace, sweet prince.
Even the discription is musical, look at that alliteration: Lango, lyrics, litany. So good.
I’ve been enjoying the TikToks of @morathanenough.
