#4 Cozy Throw Blankets
Come in and cozy up.
I love personality tests. From the serious ones that reveal your learning style to the ridiculous Buzzfeed quizzes that tell you what kind of potato you are1, I’m probably going to take it.
My favorite of all the personality systems is the Enneagram. This system is more complex than some and can honestly be a little insulting when you first read about your type and it reveals all of your weaknesses to you (how dare they) but I’ve found that insights from the Enneagram have helped me to understand myself the most.
All of that to say I’m a Enneagram Nine, and if you know anything about the Enneagram you know that I’m essentially the poster child of a Nine. Nines are referred to as The Peacemaker: we’re easygoing, reassuring, creative, supportive … but we also have a tendency to “numb out” and disappear into a cozy, familiar, peaceful setting. This is why, if you ever see a holiday gift guide for Nines, there’s probably a throw blanket on the list.

Before I sat down to write this newsletter, I counted the amount of throw blankets that I own. Mind you, I am one single person living alone in an apartment. And I didn’t count the comforter on my bed, or the light quilt I swap it out for in the summer, or my weighted blanket. Can you guess how many throw blankets are in my home? I’ll give you a minute to come up with your answer.

Eighteen. Yes, you read that right, 18 blankets. Fleece blankets, fuzzy blankets, thin blankets, thick blankets, new blankets, vintage blankets. So. Many. Blankets. At this very moment I am sitting on my couch with two different movie night themed printed fleece blankets2 draped over my lap and legs (I am nothing if not on-brand). To add to the coziness my cat Matilda is snuggled in on top of those blankets because she loves them as much as I do — she will fuss until she can knead it and feel the soft fabric on her little kitty paws. We're quite a cozy pair over here.

It’s my philosophy that you can never be too cozy or have too many blankets.3 If you come over and want to be warm and comfy, I've got you. I also have a variety of tea and mugs and novels for your to choose from for ultimate coziness. There's probably some cookie dough in the freezer if you'd like a warm snack to go with it. I bought a door mat to put outside my apartment that says "come in and cozy up." We are comfy in this house. And we will only get comfier, because I will not stop accumulating new blankets. In fact, I just finished putting together a granny square blanket I started literally seven years ago, and then immediately bought more yarn so I could start crocheting a new blanket. Because the only thing more delightful than being wrapped up in a soft warm blanket is crafting a new blanket from inside your blanket cocoon.
Mashed: You're down-to-earth and very low-key. Everyone feels comfortable around you. Pretty accurate, Buzzfeed.
Clearly, the blanket-to-human ratio in my home is 18:1.
